FightGirl Jeanine Sums up the Final Episode of the Season

Posted by admin on August 23rd, 2007

What an ending. The second season of fight girls now has four champions. I wish I had a whole lot of insight and strong sentiments to share with you, but really, I am not very surprised by any of the outcomes. I am proud of all the girls. I think Dawn defeated herself before she even got to Thailand. But I don’t want to harp on her. Traveling internationally to a tropical region has a lot of effects on your body and it seems as though Dawn’s body adjusted least well. Felice’s fight: can you say no fear. It must have been a huge honor to have stayed in the champion’s “Dorm” (if you could call it that) at the original Muay Thai gym. Felice fought hard and won well. Ardra’s fight: it was obvious that she had a fear of fighting in Thailand from her last experience there. MT had to take that fear out of her heart. The alligator was a physical way of forcing her to work past her fear. It seems to have been effective. Miriam’s fight: what a turn around. She seemed like a totally different person once the weight was lifted off her shoulders. But she did not have the urgency that MT and Gina were trying to get out of her. I remember her saying, “I have to pace myself and fight smart.” Yes, all of this is true, but just like when she was fighting Jenn, she waited until almost the last minute before she turned it on. If it wasn’t for her third round change of intensity and eventually the knockout, who knows if she would have gotten the decision. But I am proud of her for conquering herself, making a weight lighter than she had ever fought at and being victorious. Kerry’s fight: AWESOME!!! All the drills MT was working with her to be patient, see her target and hit her target paid off huge dividends in this fight. Kerry was brilliant and the first round knockout was awesome. I don’t know if anymore can be said about what we saw in the episode for this fight. But I am very proud of Kerry. Dawn’s fight: it’s one thing to want truthful people around you all the time, but it’s quite another to expect people to be positive all the time. The best friends you have will kick you in the ass when you need it and bolster you confidence along the way. Dawn wanted everyone to tell her positive stuff all the time, but she needed a kick in the ass and just got pouty when people gave her what they thought she needed. In the end Dawn convinced herself it wasn’t worth it. Remember when we did the neck challenge in episode two? MT asked her, “why did you stop?” She said, “because it wasn’t worth it. I didn’t want to make my neck sore.” And what was my response, “It better be fucking worth it.” If you are going to put your body on the line, you’d best be as strong and prepared as you can be. If something is not worth the effort to you, how can you put out your strongest effort in preparation and then competition? You can’t. I’m sorry things worked out the way they did for Dawn in Thailand. As much as I wanted to be there myself, it just didn’t happen. So I was hoping Dawn would put her best foot forward to represent our country well. Unfortunately that was not the case, but I’m sure she learned a lot from this karmic experience. I only wish her the best. I want to thank everyone who has been following this blog for your support of this show and me. It has been an honor to share my perspective with you. I would like to thank Oxygen and Mess Media for giving me this opportunity. I hope the insights that I have shared have heightened your understanding of the show and the women’s lives it documents. For all of you out there who want to be fighters, work hard, find a coach who believes in you and I wish you the best of success in your endeavors.
